The GLOBE UNITY ORCHESTRA was formed in the autumm 1966 with a commission, received by Alex von Schlippenbach from RIAS Berlin and the Berlin Jazz Festival. It was the first time, Free Jazz was presented on an important stage. The premiere performance, in November 1966 at the Berlin Philharmonie was a sensational success because the press outdid themselves equally in extravagant praise and hysterical vituperation. With this, the GLOBE UNITY ORCHESTRA was founded and began its career, which lasted more than twenty years. The band performed at the "Donaueschinger Tage fuer Neue Musik" 1967 and 1970. After that GLOBE UNITY has played almost on every important Festival in Europe. 1980 it was sent on a long tour through Asia by the Goethe Institut, with Concerts in Japan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. Later on there were tours in several european countries and the USA as well. 1982 the band won the "Down Beat" Jazz Poll on "Talents deserving wider recognition". 1986 it performed at the Chicago Jazz-Festival. A new issue on INTAKT from a recording in 2002 .The year 2003 brought up a come back of the GLOBE UNITY ORCHESTRA.
